# Introduction

KolaOS gives each member of a workspace a workstation with Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode installed. Your team shares workspace settings and repository access, and each member works in their own workstation.

You can open your workstation in a browser, in the desktop app or from an editor over SSH. Your files stay on its disk when you stop it.

> Choose infrastructure, prepare a workspace and invite your team.

> Accept an invitation and start work in the browser.

## Workspaces and workstations

An organization contains your team's workspaces, infrastructure and AI provider connections. An admin manages the organization and its workspaces, and a developer works in the workspaces they belong to.

A workspace contains developer members, repositories, tools and settings. Each member can have one workstation in a workspace. Admins manage workspaces and cannot join them as members.

A workstation belongs to one member. Only its owner can open it, connect over SSH, or start and stop it. Admins can inspect its overview and activity, resize it and delete it.

## Before you use AI tools

Your admin connects the organization's AI providers and enables tools in each workspace. You don't sign in to the preinstalled AI tools separately.

> [!WARNING]
>
> KolaOS records AI requests and responses. Organization admins can read and delete prompt records, and reads are audited. Recording cannot be turned off. See [AI tools](https://docs.usekolaos.com/development/ai-tools.md#prompt-records) for storage and retention details.

## Current limits

Anything inside a workstation or on a laptop only deters, because the developer has root there. Access checks run in the API and gateway outside the workstation. The **Internet access** setting is saved but is not enforced on nodes yet.

Read [workspace settings](https://docs.usekolaos.com/administration/workspace-settings.md) before relying on a policy, and [infrastructure](https://docs.usekolaos.com/administration/infrastructure.md) before connecting your own servers.
